The revolutionary brilliance of the second life

Dive into a show that challenges the status quo and pushes the boundaries of what is achievable. Encounter art that not only communicates but also transforms the world.

In the BURN-IN gallery, ÉCLAT SECONDE unfurls a panorama of possibilities, illuminating the secondary, and embracing the charm of the recycled. Gudrun Lenk-Wane, an artist who communicates through her hands, weaves narratives of renewal and metamorphosis. Within these walls, objects that have outlived their purpose and were carelessly discarded by others find a new stage. Lenk-Wane’s meticulously crafted materials resemble children playing with sharp edges—safe in the hands of a mother who discerns potential in every thread.

ÉCLAT SECONDE transcends mere exhibition; it intervenes in reality, challenges norms, and prompts us to reconsider the values we thought we knew. We are invited to gaze upon what we typically reject and recognize the latent potential we often overlook. In this captivating display, the discarded reigns supreme, destruction becomes inspiration, and the used serves as the foundation for the new. Lenk-Wane seems to whisper: “Observe what you’d rather avoid! Everything can rejuvenate and shine if given the chance.”

The works within these walls echo tales of human-made disasters, the sway of power over our lives, and existence—especially from a woman’s perspective. They embody an inner fear taking shape, emerging from darkness, compelling us to look closer. These artworks are the hues of protest. The artist herself remains steadfast in her exploration, reliable in her craft, physically engaged, introverted yet possessing a resolute strength. Her art is both visionary and revolutionary.

ÉCLAT SECONDE exudes unwavering positivity, palpable in the textures of the objects and the warmth of the installations. Colors sing, shapes dance, and the air in the BURN-IN gallery vibrates with the energy of fresh beginnings. Lenk-Wane’s creations tantalize the senses—a triumphant testament to imagination prevailing over the resignation often associated with materials no longer needed.

#KunstTRANSFER

As a gallery owner and curator, I am thrilled to guide you through a realm where the boundaries between the transient and the precious undergo a captivating transformation. Our exhibition, ÉCLAT SECONDE, unfurls the revolutionary potential of the “second shine”—a homage to re-creation and the boundless prospects of reuse.

Gudrun Lenk-Wane’s work conveys a potent message: not only should we appreciate the beauty and worth of the discarded, but we must also reimagine, reshape, and truly value it.

ÉCLAT SECONDE is far from a passive observer of our times; it stands as a vibrant testament to challenging the norms of consumerism and disposable culture, forging something valuable from what others discard. The contemporary mantra—reduce, reuse, and recycle—echoes throughout. Lenk-Wane fearlessly wields seemingly insignificant materials, crafting pieces of breathtaking beauty and profound depth. Each object and installation bears witness to this creative revolution, inviting us to perceive the world through fresh eyes.

With this exhibition, BURN-IN isn’t merely addressing society or collectors; rather, the gallery extends a unique proposition to companies: an opportunity to embrace and communicate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in a fresh manner. This isn’t about perfunctory exercises or “greenwashing,” but rather a creative and inspiring dialogue that bridges art, business, and society.

We cordially invite you to join us in reexamining the familiar through the lens of art. Together, let’s shape a future where values transcend mere novelty, embracing deeper significance and sustainability. Welcome to a new chapter in the book of life, penned with the hues of the past and the vision of a promising tomorrow. GreenART in its most authentic form.

Gudrun Lenk-Wane

Gudrun Lenk-Wane, born in Villach in 1967, is a versatile Austrian artist and stage designer whose professional journey is marked by a solid education and diverse artistic experiences. Her formal education commenced in 1981 at the HTL for Furniture and Interior Design in Villach. She then pursued a degree in architecture from Vienna University of Technology between 1987 and 1990. Driven by her passion for stage design, Lenk-Wane honed her skills under the guidance of Werner Schönolt from 1990 to 1994. Additionally, she expanded her expertise in set and costume design for theater at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 1991.

Following her training, she embarked on a career as a freelance set designer and visual artist in 1994. Despite her formal education, Lenk-Wane considers herself self-taught, emphasizing her continuous learning and skill expansion. This blend of formal training and self-directed exploration led to her recognition as an artist by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts, and Culture in 1996.

In 1994, she began her journey as a freelance artist, and in 2014, she became a member of Künstlerhaus Wien, an institution that further nurtured her career and provided a platform for exchange with like-minded individuals.

Lenk-Wane’s works, shaped by this extensive training, delve deeply into themes such as migration, female identity, and environmental degradation. Her artistic practice spans both painting and three-dimensional pieces, often incorporating previously used materials. This commitment to sustainability is a fundamental aspect of her work, expressing her awareness and concern for environmental, social, and economic well-being. Notably, her works, including “secondhandpeople” and “reduce reuse recycle,” have graced renowned exhibition venues and earned her recognition and several awards.
