Eerie effects of plants and human beings

Exhibition 01. - 29.09.2017

"One day it will have to be officially admitted that what we have christened reality is an even greater illusion than the world of dreams."

Salvatore Dali

Two artists of SEZESSION GRAZ show their emotional painting with eerie effects in September at the BURN-IN Gallery.

Wolfgang Finder's title refers to his expressive depictions of people - important and not so important people who cavort daily on the pages of magazines.

Thomas Rucker shows dying plants of autumn and dead branches. The winter images and the depictions of trees at night can also have an eerie effect on us.

Wolfgang Finder

Born in Graz in 1953,

he worked as a general practitioner until 2014, but since 1990 he has also devoted himself to painting and participated in exhibitions.

His work as a doctor continues to influence the themes of his artistic work. Various types of people appear in his pictures, mostly exaggerated and in expressive design and painting technique. His preferred materials are acrylic and charcoal.

He received his artistic training at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg in 1999 and 2001.

He has had solo and group exhibitions in Austria and Germany.

He has been a member of the Graz Secession since 2000.

The artist's expressive portraits of people are not dominated by realistic depictions. A musician himself, his depictions of musicians with their instruments and other interesting people are characterized by subjective emotions. His emotionally spontaneous painting brings movement to a motif that is interpreted in a "felt" way.

Thomas Rucker

He was born in Salzburg in 1967.

After graduating from high school, he studied at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg in Prof. Luis Murschetz's caricature class. Alongside his studies in sinology and art history in Vienna, he worked on nude drawings and oil paintings, calligraphy, happenings and graffiti. Rucker restored and gilded works for the province of Salzburg in St. Gilgen with Augustin Kloiber. This was followed by study and work stays in Bali, New York and Rome.

From 1998 to 2002, he received commissions for mosaics and murals. The artist received his fresco training at San Servolo in Venice and was subsequently commissioned to paint frescoes in Salzburg.

Thomas Rucker was a guest lecturer at the Bosporus University in Istanbul and took part in various gardening projects as an artist in Vienna and Salzburg.

He has been a member of the Graz Secession since 2003.

Illuminism, the incidence of light in the background of a picture that affects a plant or a tree, is the basis on which Rucker works in various artistic techniques. He also makes reference to the play of light and color in medieval cathedral architecture.
