I can't think of anything. I can think of something.
Alfred Hrdlicka, Austrian sculptor, draughtsman, painter, graphic artist and writer
Echoing Hrdlicka's quote, Černý observes his surroundings with a keen eye. In doing so, he often notices something and, unsurprisingly, many things come to mind as a reflection. His powerful visual language is based on a clear, dramatic color composition. Large formats are in the foreground because they communicate his central themes (world-weariness mixed with vehement determination) with great dynamism and strength. Here, love meets suffering and pain, sexuality meets morality and permissiveness, closeness meets distance. In his sculptural work, Černý plays with the resistance and malleability, the warmth and coldness of the materials used. Behind all the monumentality and expressive directness, however, you can always sense the artist's vitality and sensitivity. He thus shares his very personal fate and allows the viewer to participate directly in moments of happiness and drama.
The majority of the works on display date from the last three years, during which Černý has experienced an enormous creative phase. The core works, all made of acrylic, Bath (2019 | 155 x 322 cm), Horizon (2019 | 210 x 200 cm) and Swimmer (2018 | 130 x 270 cm) impress with their great expressiveness and incomparable color composition. Delicate, innocent pink contrasts with strong shades of blue, gray and red. This builds up tension and often leaves the viewer pondering. The paintings are perfectly accompanied by the sculptures Planes in my belly (2017 | lime, pink polychromed), Dreaming (2017 | bronze, granite) and Flood (2013 | polychromed plaster).
His earlier works Love, Life, Death (2006 | 150 x 285 cm| triptych), Winter, Encounter (both 2008 | 150 x 150 cm) and Identity (2010 | 200 x 200 cm) are characterized by a reduction in colour, light backgrounds and figures that seem to float in space.
The monumental, strong bronze, steel and wood sculptures appeal to several senses thanks to their very special feel. Every touch becomes a sensual pleasure, both material and symbolic.
Thus, Černý opens up a world to the empathetic viewer that transports them away from the normal hectic pace of everyday life into a meditative, sensual space.
BURN-IN at Gerngross | Art to collect and as an elixir of life.
On 7.2.2020, the BURN-IN boutique gallery celebrated its grand opening with numerous customers, long-time companions and many new visitors from the Gerngross family, who were able to enjoy a BURN-IN art break in the traditional department store for the first time.
BURN-IN and Gerngross will be pulling in the same direction in future. The joint mission is: To enable new groups of shoppers to experience art up close and freely accessible, without barriers to entry and fear of thresholds. Enjoying art as a daily elixir for a better life, as inspiration for buying and collecting, but also for the individual staging of living and working environments.
#KunstTransfer
This is also underlined by the statement from Gerngross manager Nila McCallum. "Art at Gerngross is important to us and we want to bring it closer to our customers every day. In the BURN-IN Gallery, we have found the perfect partner for art and are looking forward to working with them."
Art installation at Gerngross. In February, BURN-IN will be staging the atrium and a shop window area directly on Mariahilfer Straße in an impressive way. Expressive originals by Ladislav Černý, Aurora Cid and Ares Yannakopoulos float weightlessly in the air, transforming the shopping temple into a temple of art with a museum-like character.
Personale Lasislav Černý 2006-2020. The Bratislava-based artist impressed BURN-IN with his strong personality, his professionalism and his comprehensive, unmistakable oeuvre. Also noteworthy is the BURN-IN online depot, where the gallery currently offers more than 150 works by Černý alone worldwide. This represents a brilliant upgrade of the portfolio.
Focus on art collections. The BURN-IN portfolio thus comprises over 800 works of art, which we will increasingly offer to art collections in 2020.
