On April 10, 2014, the first BURN-IN Salon took place as part of the exhibition "Transparency + Sustainability" at the BURN-IN Gallery. Based on the ideas of the Viennese Salon around 1900, Sonja Dolzerand Renate Polzer presented 51 works by seven renowned artists (see column on the right) and illuminated backgrounds and connections to the highly topical subject in short statements.
With the newly established BURN-IN Salon, the initiators want to stimulate a lively Gexchange of ideas between artists, art collectors and companies. The informal acquaintance thereby opens completely new perspectives and thus contributes sustainably to a sensitization and appreciation of artistic work and positions bei.
What is meant by sustainability?
The principle according to which no more may be consumed than can be regrown, regenerated, provided again in the future.
It is always about the equality of ecological, economic and social development goals. It is about global justice for future generations.
One of the roots of sustainability, virtually a germ cell, comes from nature. Better formulated from forest management. Because the Benedictines formulated as one of the first in the monastery of Camaldoli in Tuscany, precisely this principle of sustainability. But not only in nature, the principle found early application, but also in architecture bspw. with the Indians, in ancient Egypt...
And since the UN Conference on Environment and Development 1992 the topic of sustainability and CSR, the Corporate Social Responsibility, became presentable. And it is about sustainable economic growth and sustainability management, the creation of a strategic competitive advantage. But sustainable also means here, no greenwashing to operate, virtually only by the PR communicated activities, but lived sustainability of all.
Of the company, the employees....
The very visionary goals of that time are today at least at innovative, strategically thinking companies and organizations firmly anchored or are currently just launched.
The Agenda 21 processes (protection of people and the environment), life cycle assessments and well-documented sustainability reports (on defined GRI - Global Reporting Initiative - reports) initiated in Germany show the solutions clearly demanded by the public, especially also in the direction of transparency.
A nice example of an authentic sustainability strategy is Bellaflora:
- Acting with competence "Green number 1"
- Acting with responsibility: Employees Environment, partners, appreciation
- Excitement: Fascination, passion, emotion, setting impulses - and thereby creating new values | as the basis of all actions | high quality standards
But also that of BURN-IN Project MGI in Liezen, upwards think innovatively, act responsibly shows the possibilities of artistic intervention in important strategic business processes. BURN-IN accompanies companies in sustainable art branding processes. From the initial inventory, through conceptualization to realization. My study "Return on Culture" shows the connections, which we also presented at Social Business Day at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna 2012 on the topic of strengthening resilience. Our projects "Two in one" and Empathy attracted the attention of participants and especially large companies saw the potential of artistic intervention on the strategic management.
As a conclusion, I would like to leave you with a few sentences from Paul Watzlawick
"If you keep doing what you have always done,
then you will keep getting what you have always gotten.
If you want something different, you have to do something different!
And if what you're doing isn't getting you anywhere,
then do something completely different - instead of more of the same wrong thing!"
These words fit perfectly with our BURN-IN vision and our daily work. BURN-IN wants to trigger change processes in companies and create sustainable values in communication, corporate culture and with the BURN-IN art branding concept.
