Trial by fire | The award-winning BURN-IN thread 2015

Ausstellung 02. - 30.06.2015

The curatorial team of BURN-IN Gallery has selected Jörg Dobrovich - DOBRO - for the "awarded thread", the special prize 2015 and organized him a personal exhibition in the gallery. BURN-IN presents 19 significant works of the artist. The title of the exhibition Feuerprobe, selected from the stimulus words for this year's BURN-IN exhibition theme "Ariadnes Faden", symbolizes the life and artistic work of DOBRO and at the same time provides important impulses for the BURN-IN gallery and think tank. For the current BURN-IN coaching formats for corporate culture are also based on the existence of relevant fire tests that stand for sustainable change. The think tank relies on storytelling concepts, the Eisbergmodell and artistic intervention.

Jörg Dobrovich DOBRO was born in Graz and studied painting and art education in Vienna with Dobrowsky, Boeckl and Weiler with a diploma. He was active in the environment of Viennese Actionism and worked as a painting and work therapist in Viennese special penal institutions. His exhibitions were not limited to the European area - as a wanderer between two cultures, he often traveled to Mexico and exhibited his works created there.

Art is self (Er)finding on whose way every artist is.
Painting is inventing: of new contexts of meaning, of other realities beyond the gaze, which goes inward.

Painting is representing stories and obsessions.
Myths transfer to the inner landscape: of the unconscious.

Dobro

Der rote Kardinal

Der rote Kardinal

Jörg Dobrovich

The artist's approach to forms and colors is a thoroughly free, expressive one, characterized by the open gaze of a traveler. He rejects the depiction of external reality and speaks of "personal mythologies and metaphors". Subjective impulses combine with a thoroughly interpreted motif such as mysterious landscapes, mythical animals and signs from the underworld, as well as symbols from Mexican cultures. Dobro makes cardinals appear in an explosion of red and angels with ruined wings fall from the sky. He mixes motifs and techniques and works with oil in strong colors, preferring red. On the other hand, in his collages of materials, he marks orderly packages, sorts feathers into shapes, and inserts button strips of linen into his compositions - an exciting visual experience.

"Myth unites longing and desire in the ongoing present. Myths are modes of representation for the marvelous and the incomprehensible. Myth is a way of looking at life."

Carlos Fuentes
