With the 40th art feature Spiritual Watercolors, Alberta brings the delicate watercolors of Indian painter, draftsman and watercolorist Asit Poddar before the curtain. The cosmopolitan is one of those gifted storytellers who empathically weave all their acquired sensory impressions and experiences into their artistic creations. The continuous transition from past to present is reflected in many of his paintings and becomes a central, significant element. One can literally feel the silence he senses on the mountains and in the deep valleys. One glimpses the world as he sees it intellectually and feels it emotionally.
His flowing lines and watercolors capture everything he takes in. From the huge, ominous peaks and deep dark canyons in black and white to the bright colors of cities and rivers. The artistic composition here relies on uncompromising reduction. In addition to landscapes and nature, architecture plays a significant role. Portraits round out Poddar's œuvre.
BURN-IN has represented Asit Poddar since 2018, and in June 2019, with the solo exhibition In the haze of myths, nature and cities - an Indian contemplation showed more than 40 works from 1995 to 2019.
His works are in collections in India, USA, UK, France, Japan, Canada, Korea, Italy, Greece and Austria.
Poddar lives and works in Kolkata.
