I have found that I can paint the unspeakable, that I can say things for which I have no words.

Characteristics and CV

An artist between depth and vitality

In the dynamic world of contemporary art, Tilde Anna Jäger, who will be represented by BURN-IN from February 2024, is an extraordinary asset. With her distinctive style, deeply rooted in the psychological and emotional dimension of being human, she creates works that are both powerful and subtle, captivating viewers.

Born in Truckenstetten, Lower Austria, in 1948, Tilde Anna Jäger began her artistic journey late. Only at the age of 40 did the self-taught lone fighter turn to painting with remarkable intensity and depth, after she had already received her first recognition in her youth by winning the European Secondary School Painting Competition. Her works reflect a development from the abstract to the figurative, whereby she has developed a unique, associative visual language that invites the viewer as a partner to empathize and think along with her.

Informel
Abstract Expressionism

Her creative periods are characterized by intense personal experiences and losses, such as death in the family, which have deeply engraved themselves in her artistic expression. Her so-called dark phase, which is characterized by the processing of these losses, is particularly striking. Nevertheless, Jäger later found her way back to color and was inspired by the vitality of Emil Nolde, for example.

In her painting practice, Tilde Anna Jäger shows herself to be a patient perfectionist who goes through the creative process both intuitively and analytically. Her works are usually created in an initial creative explosion, followed by the significant process of evaluation and perfection, which in exceptional cases can even take several years. Jäger's paintings impress with their immense depth and complexity, as they persist in any light and in any viewing situation.

The unconscious
builds the figuration

Another central element of her work is the deep psychological inspiration, particularly through the theories of Freud and Jung. Her artworks visualize the unconscious and invite us on a journey into the inner worlds of the human psyche. This introspective approach is reflected in groups of works that deal with themes such as war and peace, illness and pandemic or erotic depictions.

Tilde Anna Jäger is not only an artist, but also a storyteller. Her pictures are narrative constructions that express biographical and collective content in a pictorial language. With her tachist-musical approach, she opens up emotional spaces and orchestrates kaleidoscopic sounds of color that take the viewer on a journey into the interior.

Since 1997, Tilde Anna Jäger has enjoyed public recognition as an independent painter, supported by museum directors such as Dr. Otto Breicha, Dr. Wilfried Seipel and Dr. Berthold Ecker. Her works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions. She has managed to place her works both nationally and internationally.

Tilde Anna Jäger lives and works in Vienna and the Mostviertel region.

Why BURN-IN

BURN-IN has decided to include Tilde Anna Jäger in its artist portfolio from February 2024, as her works exude an extraordinary depth and emotional intensity that perfectly match the gallery's philosophy. Jäger's art is characterized by an impressive interplay between light and dark, between abstraction and figuration, and reflects the complexity of human existence in a way that is deeply moving and memorable. Her ability to visualize the unconscious and condense biographical and collective content into an intense, visual language makes her a strong voice in the contemporary art landscape.

The decision to choose Tilde Anna Jäger is also a conscious turn to artists who are characterized by their individual, uncompromising approach. Jäger, who only began her artistic career at the age of 40, brings with her a maturity and life experience that is reflected in her multi-layered works. Her works, which deal with deep psychological themes and personal strokes of fate, invite the viewer to immerse themselves in a world characterized by inner struggles and the search for meaning and expression. This narrative depth and emotional resonance are in perfect harmony with BURN-IN's focus on promoting art as a medium for profound human experience and exploration.

Finally, Jäger's artistic development and commitment to the art world is compelling due to her constant search for perfection and authenticity. Her way of working, which combines spontaneous creativity with careful refinement, often over many years, meets the high quality standards of BURN-IN. Tilde Anna Jäger's works, which are recognized on both domestic and international art markets, enrich the BURN-IN portfolio with an artistic position that courageously and fearlessly confronts the major issues of our time. We are proud to represent an artist like Jäger, who impresses not only with her technical skills, but above all with her profound emotional and intellectual engagement with her art.

Thoughts on the paintings of Tilde Anna Jäger

It may well be too subjective a view if someone who knows Tilde Anna Jäger and has learned to appreciate her nature, her demeanor, her apparent reclusiveness, were able to draw conclusions about her paintings, her works. As a self-taught lone fighter in the constant, merciless competition of an art scene that is at home in all galleries and exhibition venues, she asserts herself with her work in secret, as it were. This exhibition is the first time she has been honored on a larger scale. The selection shown here is by no means comprehensive; her oeuvre includes hundreds of paintings. Nevertheless, the paintings selected here provide a picture, at least for the time being, of a development process that has lasted many years. She herself speaks of a tachist-musical approach that would best do justice to her paintings. This approach to modern painting, also known as Informel or Action Painting and derived from Abstract Expressionism, is described by an umbrella term according to which this art movement takes its point of departure from formal design on the one hand, but places the spontaneity of the painting process, the painterly process itself, at the center of interpretation on the other. Accordingly, the creative process of her paintings, which can be derived from spontaneity, the unconscious experience of inner conflicts and feelings, the dreaming of certain musical-pictorial situations, is oriented towards an open result. The uniformity of the floating, impasto colors, the contours that flow into one another rather than being layered, the occasionally figurative approaches, the mostly harmonious weave of colors, rarely characterized by stark contrasts, result in a fabric that is sometimes quietly haunting. Her autonomous creative process knows no models, is not oriented towards certain formalized styles and basic geometric patterns, but corresponds to a freely formed ground of being that finds its center in a personal, emotionally outwardly pressing experience. The processing of her confrontation with the world, be it from individual experiences, be it from overarching, unconsciously perceived irritations, in the attempt to assert herself and overcome them, flows into the two-dimensional painting style, into the pastose, merging and sometimes condensing color surfaces into iridescent color reflections. The constant struggle with the painterly creative process, with the attempt to unite one's own world, the world of the inside, with that of the outside, is the decisive criterion for me to come closer to the paintings of Tilde Anna Jäger. Heightened by musical sensibilities, her paintings are an expression of a constant search for harmony and balance.
