Water anemone

about the artwork

Commissioned work € 3,500. In the center of a glass cube lies a bundle of fine tubes. When a switch is pressed, the white stems rise up with the elegance of ballerinas and come together under the force of the water to form an undulating movement that exactly resembles their animal model, the sea anemone. The S-shaped oscillation of the tubes is universal. It is the movement of snakes, of water waves, of the cornfield in the wind, of sperm and fish. At first it is a uniform to-and-fro of many individuals, but they influence each other. Minor deviations increase and form a diversely moving fan.

Gerhard Zsambok

Österreich

Gerhard Zsambok launched a research project in 1988 that deals with the properties and abilities of water and has not only shown his kinetic objects in numerous exhibitions, but has also received prizes and awards for them. Based on drawings of his concepts, form and function dominate his water sculptures, which produce enigmatic, little-known phenomena and effects of water. His "magic of water" is based on the continuous renewal of flowing water without human intervention.
